Jack Sunderland

One of the Finest Tennis Players in WNY History

Jack Sunderland
Jack Sunderland was an outstanding junior tennis player while growing up in Indianapolis, IN and was ranked 10th nationally in boys 18-and-under competition. After a three-year stint in the Marines, he went on to become the No. 1 singles player at Kalamazoo (MI) College from 1946-50

He won four Intercollegiate Athletic Association singles titles and competed in amateur tennis while serving as a special agent in the FBI. While living in Michigan, New Jersey, Ohio, Rhode Island and Wisconsin, he won more than 250 trophies and the state singles championship in each location.

Jack became a special agent in the Buffalo office of the FBI in 1964 and worked there for more than 20 years while living in Pendleton. He earned legendary status in the WNY tennis community and was ranked as the fifth best tennis player in WNY history by the Buffalo News in 2005. He played both singles and doubles in numerous tournaments for almost three decades and culminated his career with selection in the WNY Tennis Hall of Fame in 2005.
