The Hall of Fame has a "Master List" of candidates that have been nominated for induction. That list includes more than 620 names, of which 205 have been enshrined since the Hall began in 1991. Each year the Master List is reviewed by both a Nominating Committee of board members and a Media Advisory Committee comprised of members of the local sports media. From that Master List, a Short List of 25 to 30 names is submitted to the Hall of Fame's Board of Directors.

At the annual voting meeting, the selection process consists of three rounds of balloting, with 75% of votes cast required for election. A minimum of eight and maximum of 11 candidates may be elected through the three rounds of voting.
