Athletic Career:
- First native of Niagara Falls to ever play in a World Series
- Played on the Niagara University team from 1915-1917
- Broke into professional baseball with the International League Bisons in 1917, staying with them until 1922.
- Played for the New York Yankees from 1923 until 1930, playing in the 1927 and 1928 World Series.
- Set a record in the 1928 series, making the most putouts for a catcher (33) in a four-game series.
- Played for the St. Louis Browns from 1931-1932.
- In 20 years of professional ball, he made only 20 errors.
- After his playing career, he coached for the St. Louis Browns, Washington Senators, and Boston Braves before joining the Philadelphia Phillies in 1945, where he worked until his death in 1968.
- After his coaching career ended in 1959, he became head of the Junior Baseball Federation in Philadelphia where he supervised baseball clinics.
- Was best known for his public relations appearances for the Phillies.
