Dorothy Jones
While at McKinley, she was selected first team All-High and All-New York State as a senior in 1984. She scored more than 1,100 points in her McKinley career and was later inducted in 2010 into the McKinley Sports Hall of Fame.
At Louisville, the point guard averaged 10.2 points and nearly 4 assists during the 1987-88 season. In 1986-87, she averaged nine points and 4 assists. She finished her career with 804 points (7.0 ppg) and 399 assists in 114 games. She led the team in assists for three seasons and still ranks 10th in Louisville women’s basketball history in assists. In 1987-88, she was team captain and later voted Louisville’s best all-around athlete.
Jones continued her love of basketball by becoming an official for high school and women’s college basketball for nearly 20 years. She officiated at the NCAA Division I level for 10 years and now concentrates on Division II, III and junior college games. She reached the pinnacle of her profession in 2012 when she had the opportunity to officiate the NCAA Division III Final Four at Hope College in Holland, Michigan. She has also refereed the NYSPHSAA state tournament twice.
She recently retired from the New York State Police after a 25-year career.
