Pete Tonsoline

A multi-talented, multi-faceted head coach of a variety of high school sports, Pete Tonsoline has recorded more than 1,500 wins during his 40+ years leading young men and women.

A graduate of Canisius College, Tonsoline has been a member of the Iroquois High School field hockey staff since 1984 and as head coach since 1994. Known for his attention to detail, he has more than 400 varsity wins, which includes 14 division and seven sectional titles, three Far West Regional championships and three New York State Final Four appearances.

In addition to his prowess on the field hockey sidelines at Iroquois, he is also the school’s softball coach where he has won seven division championships, four sectional titles and recorded more than 360 victories.

In addition to those two sports, Pete has also coached hockey at nine different schools where he has accumulated more than 700 triumphs on the bench. His accolades include four Super Sunday first place finishes, qualifying for the New York State playoffs four times and winning one state title in 1985.

Tonsoline has also spent time working with football teams at Bishop Turner and Iroquois.

Outside of his high school mentoring, Pete coached in the Empire State games for 20 years where he guided medal winning teams in men’s ice hockey and women’s open and scholastic field hockey.

Over the years, he has also spent time serving as an instructor at the USA Olympic Training Center in Colorado and is a certified instructor for USA Hockey.

Away from the field of play, Tonsoline has served as chair for ECIC and All-WNY field hockey, spent a five-year stint as athletic director at Iroquois and was honored by the Buffalo Sabres in 1994 with the Michael Duffet Memorial Award.
