ART JEZIORSKI

Long-Time Local Bowling Champ

Born and raised in Western New York, Art Jeziorski’s success spans five decades from the 1960’s to the early 2000’s. Few bowlers can claim the sustained excellence that Art achieved in his long and storied career.

Art’s rise to prominence began in the 60’s as he claimed three straight New York State team titles. His first title came in 1965 with Buffalo Savings Bank followed by back-to-back titles in 1966 and ’67 as part of the Simon Pure team.

In 1967 Art also had his first major success as an individual competitor by setting a record of 10 straight weeks on the local television show “Beat the Champ” along with five straight weeks on the “Utica Club Show.” To close out the decade Art won the Buffalo Area Bowling Council Kick-Off Tournament in 1969.

The 70’s were Jeziorski’s most active and dominant decade. He continued his winning ways on the team circuit in 1972 with a victory at the Buffalo Bowling Association Championship as part of the Bardahl’s team. Art also claimed the 1972 Western – Central Tournament Scratch and Handicap Championship while notching another New York State Team Championship with the Bison Products team. He was back at it in 1975 with partner Ron Chader as they claimed the Buffalo Bowling Association All-Events and Doubles Championships. 1975 also marked the peak of Jeziorski’s team career as he took home the Tonawanda, Buffalo, and New York State Bowling Championships along with the American Bowling Congress championship. In 1977 Art won the Dutchmaster Open Team Championship and repeated that title back-to-back in 1979 and 1980.

Individually, Art won the 1975 Tonawanda Bowling Association Masters Championship and in 1978 held a Buffalo record for highest average ever attained in the summer singles league at Thruway Lanes. He also finished in the money three times at PBA tournaments.

In the 1980’s Jeziorski was again a force on the team circuit with a win at the Hoinke Classic and another victory at the Western – Central Tournament. He also claimed an individual title at Western – Central and in 1982, was inducted into the Buffalo Bowling Association Hall of Fame.

Art continued to shine as an individual bowler and in 1993 won the New York State Master’s Tournament Championship. In 1997 the New York State Bowling Association honored Art’s numerous achievements by electing him into their Hall of Fame.

Always a competitor, in 2001 Jeziorski added to his already impressive resume by posting the highest average (231) of any senior bowler in the world, and was named the Tonawanda Bowling Association Bowler of the Year at age 71.
