Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame president Therese Forton-Barnes and former president, Brian Cavanaugh announced the 2015 recipients of the organization’s Amateur Sports Development Fund (ASDF). A total of $11,950 to 10 Western New York youth groups and individuals are among this year’s recipients.
Receiving donations are:
- Alexis Crotty – Purchase of new mogul skis
- Patricia Mangan – Skier, who is travelling to USA Olympic team events
- Alexandra McGee – Swimmer, who is travelling to USA Junior Nationals
- Ken White – Tennis player who is travelling for the USTA/ITF World Cup Team
- Hill Butler Giants Football and Cheer Association – Funds to re-construct a damaged concession stand
- North Cheektowaga Amateur Athletic Association – Purchase of softball and football helmets
- Police Athletic League of Buffalo – Purchase of athletic equipment
- Queen City Roller Girls – Travel to Women’s Flat Track Derby Association playoffs
- University District Community Development Association – Purchase of athletic equipment
- WNY Elite Basketball – Purchase of new uniforms
“In addition to honoring the athletic greats from Western New York, the primary mission of the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame is to give back to the community,” said board president Therese Forton-Barnes. “I want to thank ASDF Committee Chairman Mike Buczkowski for all of the work his group did this year in identifying a tremendous group of recipients.”
“This is a rewarding process to be a part of,” added Buczkowski, who is also the General Manager of the Buffalo Bisons. “When you assist the youth of Western New York to reach their goals through athletic competition, you enhance the community. This is a tremendous thing the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame does each year and I am proud to be a part of it.”
