1975-97 Sweet Home High School Girls Varsity Volleyball Team

2022 Team of Distinction

When it comes to prolonged dominance, it would be difficult to match what Coach Sally Kus and her Sweet Home High School girls volleyball teams accomplished over a 22-year period. The squads accumulated a staggering overall record of 792-29 (96.5%) and had a 292-match undefeated streak spanning ten seasons from 1978-87. That streak was the longest win streak in American sports history at the time it came to an end and is still the nation’s longest winning streak in girls’ sports. That dominating success has earned the Panthers the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame 3rd Annual Team of Distinction recognition.

During Sweet Home’s remarkable run, they won 15 consecutive New York State Far West Regional titles, 20 consecutive Section VI Class A championships, and earned numerous Top 20 national rankings starting in 1990.

The 1991-92 team was the #1 ranked high school girl’s volleyball team in the country. In 1996, Sweet Home was recognized as the nation’s best in the sport’s 100-year history by Volleyball Magazine.
